I have worked with other trainers, however Heather makes my workout easy to follow and fun! Her Knowledge on nutrition is fantastic and she spells it all out for you, so there is no guessing. I’m not forced to eat foods I don’t like and I’m not coerced into buying expensive supplements and protein drinks. She finds out what you like and goes from there. AND, if you follow her directions, you will see results quickly! Just look at her and that alone will show you she knows what she is doing! She’s not out there to turn you into a buff manly body-builder-type; she listens to your goals and helps you achieve them.

Heather puts the “P” in “Personal Trainer.” Every person is different and Heather has helped me discover what works for ME! Heather doesn’t do a “one fits all” plan rather she customizes a workout, food plan and patiently coaches you toward a healthy and well rounded fitness plan. I used to think that all I had to do was cardio and all would be well. As I got older…things changed! Cardio alone wasn’t working. It was then that I started on a quest to find a personal trainer and after several well meaning trainers - I finally found Heather! That was 5 years ago and although Heather has equipped me with the tools I need to succeed alone, I continue to train with her not only because I enjoy her company but I need the accountability.

After being a member of LA Fitness for 2 years and seeing no noticeable improvement in my physique, I decided to join Fitness 1 and hire a personal trainer. My wife had done this 2 years ago and was happy with the results (which I could see on her). My wife recommended hiring Heather, saying she was extremely knowledgeable, disciplined, good sense of humor… and mean! Why do I choose to train with Heather? When I signed up for a trainer with Fitness 1, I told them I wanted their most knowledgeable and most experienced trainer they had. They told me they had only one person who would fill both of those requirements, Heather! I was a little nervous about having a female trainer, but after my first workout session with her, I knew I had received the best! The reason Heather is the best is she not only makes you sweat, but she make you accountable for what you do outside of the gym. She goes above and beyond any normal trainer I have ever had. She takes the time to learn about your habits and routines, and then makes a fitness plan that will help you achieve your goals. I have written this letter to highly recommend Heather Hickson to you as a personal trainer. I had never worked with a personal trainer before, although I had engaged in numerous untrained efforts at improving my physical fitness – and never reached my personal goals. Heather worked with me for four months, prior to my relocating to Texas. I had both fitness and weight loss goals when I began to work with her. It was obvious to me that Heather was not only focused on helping me reach my goals, but also on my learning good technique to avoid injury and maximize my workouts. I am very pleased that both goals were met during the time period I had, including modification of my sugar-focused eating habits – to my great benefit.
In addition, Heather has been instrumental in transitioning my workouts and weight-training to ones that I can easily continue during and after my relocation has been accomplished.

I’ve worked out with Heather for over 3 years. She and I started before I got pregnant and with my changing shape came different training needs. Heather advanced her education to learn more about training during and beyond pregnancy to meet my specific needs. After the pregnancy Heather not only helped me get back to my pre-baby weight she helped me drop an additional 22 pounds by the time my baby was 6 months old, just in time for my class reunion! Heather was my trainer at Fitness 1 for a couple of years. She is an
extremely knowledgeable trainer, the best I've ever had (compared to 4 or 5 others).
With her encouragement I was able to reduce my body fat (from 44% to 27%) and weight (about 30 pounds). I dropped from a size 18 to a size 12/14. Most importantly, I began to feel a lot better about myself and more confident in the gym.
She taught me all kinds of new exercises and techniques that I would never have learned just from watching others or reading magazines. Often my first reaction was, “There’s no way I can do that!” But she found ways to adapt the exercises to my physique and limitations until I was able to perform them expertly.
She also encouraged me to pursue other fitness activities
that complemented my training and gave me other suggestions that
improved my fitness pursuits. I would have never tried to pursue yoga or spinning or long bike rides without her encouragement. With her help, I was able to train for and complete a 65 mile bike ride!
By the way, I'm a complete klutz, regularly needing some correction.
She's very cheerful about reminding me of my form and keeping me from doing “stupid things”.

I continue to train with Heather (1 ½ years) because she helps me achieve the fitness and health goals I have set for myself in a safe, fun, and accountable manner. She makes sure I have proper form when doing strength training so that I don’t kill or maim myself as I likely would do without a trainer. Because she is there waiting for me, I don’t cancel my workouts or successfully come up with an excuse to miss them and do something ‘more important’ just because my body doesn’t really want to go to the gym that day. With Heather, I am accountable to both of us for keeping up my exercise plan – both cardio and strength training. She makes workouts fun even when I am pushing my limits and doing more weight than I would dare do alone. I have achieved greater fitness results faster with a trainer than when I worked out on my own. Heather has also assisted me with a diet plan to achieve better results than just working out did. When I lost weight, but lost muscle instead of fat, Heather adjusted my diet plan accordingly and the next month’s results were dramatic with 6% muscle gain with corresponding fat loss. Personally and professionally, Heather is a wonderful trainer to have and makes working out both productive and fun.

I originally signed up with Heather as a trainer because a friend of my daughter recommended her. I’ve been training with her for about 4 months now I guess. She’s very good at her job and she keeps me motivated (even when I don’t feel like being there!). The nutrition/meal plan that she made up for me has helped tremendously as well. I haven’t lost as much weight as I would have liked, but that is due to me and not Heather…[grins here]. I’m sure that without her encouragement and training I wouldn’t have lost as much as I have. She is a great motivator and is willing to work with you on reaching any goals that you desire.
I had a vague idea on how to use some of the weight equipment from a gym membership that I had many, many years ago. But my knowledge of most were non-existent, any many seemed very intimidating. With Heather’s help I think I’ve mastered most of them! I see many people in the gym use the weights and machines improperly since being instructed on the proper form and am glad that I know how to use them. She’s shown me different ways to work the same muscles and therefore have a very complete workout with each session. Her help and guidance have been invaluable. Above and beyond all that… she is a very nice person, and makes my workouts fun and enjoyable. She makes it hurt so good! Ha-ha

When I was looking for a trainer, I talked to about 15 trainers before finding Heather. She is honest, knowledgeable, fun and most importantly she completely personalized my nutrition and workouts based on where I was starting out and where I wanted to be. It took 45 minutes for me to get to the gym for my training sessions, but the results, support and health that I gained from training with Heather made it well worth it!
